Balestrand-Dragsvik (9 km) - then car ferry to Vangsnes (30 mins), Vangsnes - Feios (8 km), Feios - Fresvik (16 km). Each way.

Another possibility from Vangsnes is to take the road in the direction of the small farming and fruit growing settlements at Feios and Fresvik. Beautiful scenery all along the way. BUT please note - there are 2 tunnels along the whole length (800m and 1500m long). Lights essential!

Or, also in Vangsnes, cycle up a gravel forestry track to a height of around 500m, or less if you prefer. This is hard cycling, winding steadily uphill. You get great views across the Sognefjord from the other side back to Balestrand and the impressive mountains behind.

Balestrand-Dragsvik (9 km)- then car ferry to Vangsnes (30 mins), Vangsnes-Vik (9 km), Vik - Arnafjord(25 km). Each way.

When you get off the ferry at Vangsnes first take a little time to see the impressive giant bronze statue of Fridtjof as well as getting very good views back over to Balestrand. Then pedal on along the road to Vik. In Vik we highly recommend you see the beautiful stave church, dating from around 1130 (open mid May to mid Sept). You can see various other things in Vik and then cycle back, or cycle further along the road towards Arnafjord. An almost empty little road with views into the lovely fjord arm of Arnafjord. After about 15 km you come to a tunnel (approx 1 km long) where you can stop and see across the water to the little settlements on the other side and their steep mountain backdrop. Here you may feel you have ridden far enough. If you want an even longer ride carry on through the tunnel (lights essential!) and another 10 km to the village where the road ends.  Remember it will be a long ride back!
